Reporting Studio is a next-generation reporting platform that helps you measure, analyze, and share the success of your social impact initiatives. With unified reporting across the Benevity platform, you gain more control and flexibility to uncover insights, share compelling stories, and drive data-informed decisions.
Using standard dashboards
Standard dashboards give you a quick way to explore key data across your programs. These predefined dashboards are created by Benevity to help you answer common questions and surface key insights right away. They are designed to be flexible and informative, allowing you to uncover important trends with just a few adjustments.
Understanding dashboard filters
Filters shape the data shown in each dashboard tile, so it is important to check and update them before drawing conclusions. Use the following best practices to ensure accurate data views.
- Review the filter settings before analyzing any dashboard to ensure you're viewing the correct subset of data.
- After updating filters, select Update in the top-right corner of the dashboard to refresh the data view.
- If the Currency display filter is available on a dashboard, use it to convert donations made in multiple currencies into a single currency. This filter applies exchange rates based on the transaction date. You can also add this field to custom report and dashboard filters.
- Apply the Employee Engagement Custom field selection filter to group data by user profile fields, such as location, department, or employee groups. After selecting a custom field, select Update to refresh the dashboard and view grouped data.
Downloading dashboard data
Downloading dashboard data helps you share insights or conduct further analysis outside of Reporting Studio. There are a few ways to download data depending on whether you're working with a tile or a full report.
- To download data from a tile, select the three-dot icon (⋮) in the top-right corner of the tile.
- In the download window, open Advanced data options and select All results to include the full dataset, even if the tile’s table is limited.
Saving and sharing insights
Reporting Studio makes it easy to save, organize, and share the data views that matter most. Whether you're creating visualizations for personal reference or preparing reports for others, use these tools to streamline your workflow.
Favoriting reports
Use the Favourite function to quickly access your most-used Looks or Dashboards from the Favourites section in the left navigation panel. Keep in mind that favourited content resets to default filters each time it loads. You can favourite content by clicking on the heart icon next to the content name.
Organizing with boards
Use Boards to group related Looks or Dashboards and apply shared filter settings. Boards can be shared with other users who have access to Reporting Studio, as long as the content’s root folder is also shared.
Scheduling deliveries
Use Scheduling to send Looks or Dashboards via email either immediately or on a recurring schedule. You can send reports to both internal users and external stakeholders. If the recipients do not have Reporting Studio access, avoid including the report link in the email.
Creating custom reports
Creating custom reports lets you build tailored visualizations to meet your unique reporting needs. These tools offer greater flexibility and control, especially when you're ready to go beyond the basics.
Avoiding issues with standard dashboards
Avoid copying or editing Standard Dashboards. These dashboards use complex logic that supports flexible grouping and filtering. Modifying them can cause unexpected behaviour or incorrect results.
Using Quick Starts
Use Quick Start templates to create custom visualizations more efficiently. These prebuilt templates give you a solid foundation and help maintain consistency as you adjust data inputs and formatting.
Understanding visual types
Understanding the difference between the core visual building blocks helps you organize your reports more effectively:
- A Look is a single data visualization.
- A Dashboard is a collection of Looks.
- A Board is a collection of Dashboards.
Customizing visual appearance
To align your reports with your company’s brand, customize colors and fonts in your data visualizations.
Managing data limits
Data visualizations have a display limit of up to 5,000 rows. Although all data can be exported, larger datasets may require filtering or breaking reports into smaller time periods. If your visualization merges data from multiple sources, the export limit is also 5,000 rows, matching the display limit.
