Translating user content

Through machine translations, users can view posts, blogs, comments, and event content in their profile language. This supports a more inclusive and accessible community by making it easier for everyone to engage with content, regardless of the language it was originally written in.

Permissions

A program admin must first enable content translations. Once enabled, all members of the community will see the option to translate content that appears in a different language than their own profile language.

Enabling content translations

To enable content translations for employee groups:

  1. Go to the Admin section of employee groups.
  2. Select Configure > Platform Setup.
  3. Locate the Translations section.
  4. Select the checkbox for Allow employees to translate content created by other users into their own language.
  5. Save your changes.

Once enabled, the Translate option appears automatically for all users in Employee Groups when viewing content in a different language.

Translating content

Only user-generated content can be translated. This includes posts, comments, blogs, and event pages. System text, such as navigation and menu items, is handled separately through platform translations.

The system automatically detects and stores the original language of each piece of content. When that content appears in a different language than a user’s language setting, a Translate option appears above the post, blog, comment, or event. Selecting Translate shows a machine-generated translation in line with the original content. If needed, users can select Revert Translation to return to the original version.

Users can translate:

  • Feed posts
  • Comments
  • Blogs
  • Event pages

Translations are not stored. If a user navigates away or logs out, they may need to select Translate again when returning to the content.

Machine translations may not always be fully accurate, especially for complex topics, regional expressions, or informal language.
