The stream manager helps program administrators reorder and feature content, both in the Featured Content carousel on the dashboard and in the Featured Giving Opportunities and Featured Volunteer Opportunities. Content is featured based on audience categories and audience groups. With stream manager, admins can ensure the most relevant content appears in key positions and is visible to the right audiences.
Permissions
Anyone with the following user roles can edit and manage Featured content by accessing stream manager:
- Campaign manager
- Volunteer manager
- Content manager
- Dashboard manager
- Missions manager
Note: Because many admins may have access to stream manager through ambassador-type roles, it’s important to coordinate any changes to the audience category.
Changing the category affects the entire program and removes all existing content from the streams. Admins receive a warning, but we recommend discussing changes with your program team before proceeding.
Accessing the stream manager
- Select Manage in the top navigation bar.
- Under Content, select stream manager (this opens in a new tab).
Note: Stream manager is a program-wide feature. Once enabled, it becomes the default experience for all admins with the appropriate roles.
This means all admins will access and manage Featured Content both through stream manager, and through the creation form.
Activating the stream manager for featured content
Before content curated in stream manager appears in the Featured Content carousel, you need to enable it for the dashboard:
- Select Manage in the top right corner.
- Select Content > Dashboard Settings.
- Select the checkbox labeled: Curate the "Featured Content" section of the user dashboard using the stream manager.
Note: This checkbox only becomes available once you’ve selected an audience category in stream manager.
We recommend curating streams with content before enabling this setting to ensure all users see content in the Featured Content carousel.
Once this setting is enabled, all content you’ve added and organized in stream manager appears as Featured Content both in the carousel on the homepage, and in the Featured Giving Opportunities and Featured Volunteer Opportunities for your users.
Adding content to stream manager
You can add content in one of two ways:
Importing existing featured content
This helps admins quickly set up their streams by pulling in existing featured volunteer and giving opportunities. Importing featured content is a one-time action per stream audience instance and any changes needed afterwards for specific audiences must be made manually. You cannot import content for audience groups.
To import content:
- Select the audience you want to import content for in the Audience dropdown.
- Select Import Stream Content in stream manager.
- Select Confirm in the confirmation modal to start the import. This action can only be performed once per audience.
Once the import is complete, all imported content appears in the stream as long as content already exists for that audience in the Featured Content carousel.
Note: Importing content can only be done once per audience and any changes needed afterward must be made manually.
Adding content manually
Admins can manually add specific content to a stream by selecting an audience and entering the content URL. This ensures the right content appears in the Featured Content carousel for the selected audience.
To add content manually:
- Select the audience you want to add content for in the Audience dropdown.
- Copy and paste the URL of any piece of content that has been published to your program into the stream’s URL input field.
- Select Add Content to include the content in the stream.
The following types of published content can be promoted in the Featured Content carousel:
- Giving opportunities
- Volunteering opportunities
- News articles
- Nonprofit profiles
- Nonprofit projects
Reordering content
Program admins can control the placement of content within the Featured Content carousel:
- Locate the content card in the chosen stream.
- Use the up and down arrows to adjust its position in the stream.
This ensures the most relevant content appears in the desired slots.
Note: You can view the full Featured Content carousel or filter to see only featured volunteering or featured giving opportunities.
This helps you manage content that appears across different parts of the platform — both collectively on the homepage and specifically on the Volunteering and Giving pages.
Previewing content
Admins can preview how content appears in the carousel before it goes live to ensure it is assigned to the correct audience and ordered appropriately.
To preview content:
- Select Preview Stream under the stream name to make a popup appear.
- Review the first three pieces of content in the pop-up to confirm their placement in the Featured Content carousel.
- Make any changes and select Save to make these changes live to your audience.
Previewing content helps ensure your content is ordered appropriately before users see it live.
To streamline your workflow of featuring content, set up audiences groups to bulk add and bulk remove content from many audiences at once. If you want to start featuring content from scratch, change your audience category.
Removing content
To remove content from the Featured Content carousel:
- Select the three-dot menu on the content card.
- Select Remove from stream.
If content is archived or unpublished or deleted, it is automatically removed from the stream to keep the carousel up to date.
