Duplicating a volunteer opportunity

Duplicating creates a copy of an existing volunteer opportunity with all its settings pre-filled in the creation form. This saves time when you run similar events regularly or want to use a well-configured opportunity as a template for a new one.

Permissions

The roles that can duplicate volunteer opportunities are the same as the roles that can create them, which depends on your program's configuration. At minimum, the following roles can duplicate:

  • Volunteer manager
  • Volunteer manager (junior admin)
  • Volunteer manager (no reporting)

Programs that allow volunteer managers and coordinators to create opportunities also grant duplication access to:

  • Volunteer coordinator
  • Volunteer coordinator (self publish)
  • Volunteer manager (non-admin)

Users with the Campaign Manager role can also duplicate a volunteer opportunity as a giving opportunity, if giving is enabled for your program.

Partner-created opportunities (those sourced through VolunteerMatch, Goodera, or Visit) cannot be duplicated at all. Nonprofit-created opportunities cannot be duplicated as a volunteer opportunity, but Campaign Managers can still duplicate them as a giving opportunity.

Duplicating a volunteer opportunity

When you duplicate an opportunity, it opens in the creation form with most of the original's details already populated, including the title, description, shifts, contacts, cause, images, and custom volunteer questions. A few fields reset automatically:

  • Rewards: The reward type and any custom reward configuration are cleared and must be set again on the new opportunity.
  • Status: The duplicate starts as a new unpublished opportunity and goes through your program's usual creation or approval flow.

Update any other fields that need to change, such as the title, dates, and shift details, before submitting.

Depending on your role, the Duplicate button may offer one or two options:

If both options are available to you, a dropdown appears when you select Duplicate. If only the volunteer opportunity option is available, the button takes you directly to the creation form.

Duplicating as a volunteer opportunity

  1. Open the volunteer opportunity you want to duplicate.
  2. Select Duplicate in the action bar.
    • If a dropdown appears, select As Volunteer Opportunity.
  3. Update the fields that need to change for the new opportunity, such as the title, dates, and shifts.
  4. Select Submit to publish the new opportunity or send it for approval.

Duplicating as a giving opportunity

  1. Open the volunteer opportunity you want to duplicate.
  2. Select Duplicate in the action bar, then select As Giving Opportunity from the dropdown.
  3. Update the details for the new giving opportunity.
  4. Select Submit to publish or send for approval.

Note: The Duplicate button does not appear on partner-created opportunities (VolunteerMatch, Goodera, Visit). On nonprofit-created opportunities, Campaign Managers will see the Duplicate button, but only the As Giving Opportunity option is available.
