Investigating company match sources in Donation History

Donation History can show which matching campaigns funded the Company Match on a committed donation. Expanding Show match sources lists each campaign’s display name and the amount it contributed. Use this when you need to explain a multi-campaign match or confirm whether match came from a special offer versus a year-round program.

Permissions

Anyone with the user account manager user role can open another employee’s profile and review match sources on that employee’s Donation History. Employees can review match sources on their own Donation History.

Reviewing match sources on an employee donation

Open the employee’s Donation History from their profile to view the same match source breakdown they see.

  1. Select Manage in the top right corner.
  2. Select People from the admin navigation bar.
  3. Find and select the employee’s name to open their profile.
  4. Select the Giving tab, then select Donation History.
  5. Locate the donation and confirm the Company Match or Adjusted Company Match total.
  6. If Show match sources is available, select it.
  7. Review each campaign display name and amount, and confirm they add up to that company match total.

Match sources load only when you expand a row. They are not loaded for every donation when Donation History first opens. Collapsing and expanding again in the same session reuses the loaded data.

If the panel shows Unable to load match sources., select Retry. If the error continues, note the donation or transaction ID and contact Support.

Understanding what match sources show

On a committed donation with a Company Match or Adjusted Company Match greater than zero, Show match sources lists:

  • Each matching campaign’s display name
  • The amount matched from that campaign

Those amounts add up to the company match total on the row (allowing for normal rounding).

Amounts use the donation’s transaction currency, not the currency of the employee’s current foundation experience. If the employee later moves to a different foundation or currency, match sources still display in the currency used when the donation was made.

You may see one campaign or more than one. One campaign means that offer funded the full match. More than one usually reflects how your program matches employee donations. That includes matching tier flow-through and site-wide offers when those are enabled.

Campaign names are the display names configured for those campaigns, so review those names for clarity if employees will see them.

Show match sources does not appear when there is no company match (including after a full reversal), when only peer match applied, or when the donation is still upcoming. After a partial reversal, expanding the row shows the remaining net match sources only, not amounts that were reversed. The breakdown is available in Donation History only. It is not included in CSV export or standard reports.

Match sources also do not include:

  • Match rates or tier labels
  • Budget names
  • Why a match stopped at a certain amount
  • Peer match amounts (peer match stays on its own line)
