Using Dynamic Translations in Benevity Grants

Dynamic Translations lets reviewers, grant managers, and administrators view the Benevity Grants management interface, application content, and exports in their preferred language in real time. By providing machine-generated translations directly in the interface, the feature removes language barriers during the grant review process and reduces the need for external translation tools. Dynamic Translations applies to the grants management interface only and does not translate grant application forms.

Note: Dynamic Translations must be enabled for your site before users can access it. To enable the feature for your organization, contact support.

Permissions

Once Dynamic Translations is enabled for your site, all users with access to the Grants management interface can select a preferred language. No additional roles or permissions are required to switch language.

Setting your preferred language

You can set your preferred language from two locations. Your preference is saved to your profile and applies each time you log in.

To set your preferred language from the page footer:

  1. Locate the language selector in the footer at the bottom of any page. It displays a globe icon alongside your currently selected language.
  2. Select the dropdown arrow to expand the list of available languages.
  3. Select your preferred language.

The page reloads with content translated into your selected language. A brief loading animation appears while the translation is applied.

To set your preferred language from your profile:

  1. Navigate to your user profile and select Edit.
  2. Locate the Language Preferences section.
  3. Select your preferred language from the dropdown.
  4. Select Save.

Note: The languages available in the dropdown are configured for your specific program. If your preferred language is not listed, contact Benevity support to request a change.

Viewing exported data in your preferred language

When you generate a PDF or CSV export, the file follows your active language setting automatically. Both column headers and user-provided content are exported in your selected language, producing consistent records for reporting and official documentation.

Understanding what is and isn't translated

When you select a language, the Grants management interface automatically generates machine translations for most page content. To protect data integrity and historical accuracy, some content is intentionally not translated regardless of your language setting.

Content that is translated:

  • Request, invitation, and nomination details: form content, questions, and submitted answers
  • Cause Details: information about the organization connected to a request
  • User-entered fields: notes, comments, and free-text responses
  • Categories and custom fields: classification labels and configurable field values
  • Payment-related data: in-kind types, subtypes, and budget information

Content that always displays in its original language:

  • Request IDs and file names: unique identifiers remain unchanged to ensure accurate referencing
  • Registered legal entity names: official organization names are not altered
  • Audit log data values: system field labels are translated, but specific recorded values (for example, "Budget changed from $500 to $1,000") remain in the original language to preserve an accurate historical record

Note: Some translations are machine-generated and may not be fully accurate. For critical decisions, confirm important details directly with the applicant.
