You can nominate a nonprofit to be vetted and verified by Benevity so that grants can be sent through the platform.
Permissions
By default, all users can nominate a nonprofit for inclusion in Benevity's database of nonprofits. To specify which users have permission, contact the support team.
Nominating a nonprofit from an application
To submit a nomination with nonprofit details entered in an application:
- Open an existing request or invitation.
- Select the Cause tab.
-
If the nonprofit is not already in the Benevity database, you'll see a notification with the option to Nominate this cause.
Nominating a nonprofit when creating a request or invitation
To submit a nomination with nonprofit details entered when creating a request or invitation:
- Go to your dashboard and select Create New Invitation or Create New Request.
- First, search for the nonprofit using their registration ID or legal operating name as it may already be in the database.
-
If there are no results, select the Nominate a cause checkbox and include as many nonprofit details as you can.
Nominating a nonprofit without an application
There may be cases where you know a nonprofit will require vetting or onboarding before starting their application. To submit a nomination without creating an application:
- Go to the Causes tab.
- Search for the nonprofit and view their current profile status. You do not need to nominate nonprofits that have a profile and are disbursable.
- If you are unable to find your nonprofit or the nonprofit is not verified and disbursable, select Nominate a cause.
- In the subsequent form, provide the nonprofit's name, address, and a point of contact we can reach out to.
What happens with my nomination?
When you submit a nonprofit nomination, you can expect the following:
- The Benevity Support team will receive your request and start the vetting process by asking the organization to register in our Causes Portal.
- The organization must verify they are in good standing with their governing tax body; self-certify against common eligibility requirements; and set up electronic payments. The vetting process usually takes about four weeks to complete since there is some back and forth between Benevity and the organization.
- The support team will contact you to let you know if the nonprofit has been verified and successfully onboarded.
- If successful, you will see additional nonprofit information on the Causes tab of a request like their eligibility status, mission statement and more about the nonprofit.
Nonprofit nominations are not visible in the B-Hive My Requests as they are processed by a different team, with a different tool. You're updated by email on the nomination progress. If your team requires several nominations and updates on the status of each request, contact the support team.
