Course: Introducing Volunteer Catalog
Explore how the Volunteering Catalog can help you scale your program with vetted, high-impact opportunities that are ready to launch.
⏰ 10 minutes
Filters are located at the top of the Volunteering Catalog admin page and help you find relevant content that aligns with your team's location, interests and coordination preferences, making it easier to curate a catalog that resonates with your people.
Permissions
Anyone with the following user roles can apply filters to find volunteer opportunities in the program catalog:
- Volunteer Manager
- Volunteer Manager (No Reporting)
- Volunteer Manager (Junior Admin)
Filtering by location
Use the Country filter to find opportunities based in the country where your team is located. To further refine your search, use the City filter to locate opportunities that are close to your people and teams who are looking to volunteer.
Filtering by location type
Use the Location type filter to choose between:
- In-person: Volunteering that happens at a physical location.
- Virtual: Volunteering that can be done online, joining from any location.
- All: Displays both in-person and virtual volunteering.
Filtering by hosting type
The Hosted by filter helps you understand how the opportunity is managed:
- Nonprofit-hosted: These opportunities require coordinators to contact the nonprofit to schedule and co-host the event.
- Volunteer-hosted: These opportunities can be organized independently, without contacting the nonprofit.
Filtering by impact area(s)
Use Impact Area(s) to discover opportunities tied to specific themes, such as animals, environment or education. Impact areas help you align volunteer content with your company's values and the interest areas of your employees.
Note: You can only filter by impact areas added by Benevity. It is not currently possible to create new tags.
Filtering by opportunity type
Select the Opportunity type filter to choose between:
- Custom: Opportunities sourced specifically for your company by Benevity's content team. Only your company can see these opportunities.
- Recommended: Curated opportunities from Benevity's catalog that are recommended for your program.
- Catalog: Standard content available in the Benevity volunteering catalog. This is standard content shared across all clients, but does not include any custom opportunities sourced for individual companies.
Filtering by awareness days
Use the Awareness Days filter to find opportunities connected to global events and social causes, such as International Women's Day or Mental Health Awareness Month. This helps you spotlight opportunities that align with timely campaigns and issues your company supports.
Filtering by opportunity title
Use the Opportunity Title filter to quickly find a specific opportunity by name. This is useful when revisiting an opportunity you've seen before or searching by title from a shared link or promotion.
Filtering by cost
Use the Cost filter to find out whether an opportunity includes a financial cost. This filter helps volunteers and administrators make informed decisions and plan accordingly.
Filtering by number of volunteers needed
Use the Volunteers Needed filter to refine your search based on how many participants are required for the opportunity. This makes it easier to match opportunities to individuals or teams who want to volunteer together.
Filtering by program catalog status (admin only)
If you are a program administrator, you have access to a filter called Program catalog status. Use this to:
- Identify which opportunities have already been added to your program catalog.
- Spot opportunities that are not yet in your catalog, helping you add fresh content more efficiently.
This filter is only visible to users with administrator-level permissions.
Revealing additional filters
To keep the Volunteering Catalog clean and easy to navigate, some filters—such as Awareness Days, Cost, Volunteers Needed, and Opportunity Title—are located under the Show More Filters section.
- Select Show More Filters at the bottom of the filter list to expand the full set of filters.
When filters from this section are applied, a number appears on the Show More Filters button, so you can easily see that additional filters are active.
