Paying for your peer match
Understanding peer match payment scenarios
Each peer matcher's pledge is tracked independently and follows its own lifecycle. The payment implications differ depending on the situation:
Multiple peer matchers on the same opportunity
When more than one person is peer matching the same opportunity, the matching pool shown to donors combines all active pledges. It is distributed proportionally based on each pledge's size. Each individual's contribution is tracked separately. When one person's allocation is fully used up, they receive their own payment notification while other matchers continue unaffected.
Adding a pledge after another matcher's funds run out
A new person can add their own peer match to the same opportunity as long as it is still active. This applies whether the original peer matcher has already paid or is still waiting to do so.
- If the original peer matcher has already paid (fulfilled): The new pledge starts fresh and only applies to donations going forward. It does not retroactively cover donations already matched by the previous pledge.
- If the original peer matcher's funds have run out but they haven't paid yet: Both can coexist. The original peer matcher's payment obligation is unaffected by the new pledge. They still owe their amount and will continue to see the Pay Now prompt. Meanwhile, the new pledge immediately becomes active and begins matching new donations. The available pool increases again even while the first payment is outstanding.
In both cases, the new peer matcher will receive their own payment notification when their funds run out or the giving opportunity ends.
Increasing a pledge after payment
If the giving opportunity is still active after a peer matcher has paid their pledge, they can add more funds to the pool. This starts a new pledge cycle. They will receive another payment notification when the new funds are used up. Adding more funds is only possible once the current pledge has been paid. The system blocks new pledges for the same opportunity while an existing pledge is still active or awaiting payment.
