Sharing giving and volunteer opportunities to Microsoft Teams channels

You can post giving and volunteer opportunities directly to your organization's Microsoft Teams channels. Users receive a card in the channel with a Donate or Sign up button, and can take action without leaving Teams.

Permissions

The roles required to share opportunities depend on the opportunity type.

Anyone with the following roles in your program can share giving opportunities to Teams channels:

  • Campaign manager
  • Fundraising manager

Anyone with the following roles in your program can share volunteer opportunities to Teams channels:

  • Volunteer manager
  • Volunteer manager (no reporting)
  • Volunteer manager junior admin
  • Volunteer manager (non-admin)
  • Volunteer coordinator
  • Volunteer coordinator (self publish)

Getting started

Before you can share opportunities to Teams channels, make sure:

Note: Users who receive opportunity cards in their Teams channels do not need to have the Benevity app installed. When they select Donate or Sign up, the app automatically detects whether it is installed and guides them through setup before taking them to complete their transaction.

Sharing a giving opportunity to a Teams channel

  1. Navigate to the giving opportunity you want to share in your program.
  2. Select Share to MS Teams from the Share dropdown on the opportunity page.
  3. Select the Microsoft Teams team you want to share to. Only teams you are a member of are shown.
  4. Select one or more channels within that team. Only channels you are a member of are shown.
  5. Add an optional custom message (up to 1,000 characters) to accompany the card.
  6. Review the confirmation screen and choose how to share:
    • Select Post to Teams Now to post the card directly to the selected channels.
    • Select Preview in Teams to send a preview card to your private Teams chat first. When you're ready, select Post to selected channel(s) from the preview to publish.

The opportunity card appears in the selected Teams channels, displaying key details such as the opportunity name, header image, associated nonprofit, and end date. Users can select Donate to start their donation in the Benevity app. Cards cannot be edited or removed after posting.

Note: Users are redirected to the Benevity app to complete their donation. Transactions do not happen directly in the Teams channel.

Sharing a volunteer opportunity to a Teams channel

  1. Navigate to the volunteer opportunity you want to share in your program.
  2. Select Share to MS Teams from the Share dropdown on the opportunity page.
  3. Select the Microsoft Teams team you want to share to. Only teams you are a member of are shown.
  4. Select one or more channels within that team. Only channels you are a member of are shown.
  5. Add an optional custom message (up to 1,000 characters) to accompany the card.

    • Select Post to Teams Now to post the card directly to the selected channels.
