Setting up the Benevity app for your organization in Teams

The Benevity app brings your company's giving and volunteering program directly into Microsoft Teams, so users can participate without switching platforms.

Permissions

Anyone with the Site settings manager role in your program can install and configure the Benevity app in Teams.

Installing the Benevity app in Teams

The Benevity app in Teams is included in your platform with no additional charge. To use it, each user must have a Microsoft 365 license that includes Teams access.

A Microsoft 365 administrator must approve the app in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center before anyone in your organization can use it. If your IT team needs security or compliance information, share the Benevity for Teams App Security and IT Admin Guide with them before proceeding.

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.
  2. Search for Benevity in the app catalog.
  3. Select the app and set it to Allowed.

Once allowed, the app is available for users to find and add from the Teams app store. Optionally, you can pre-install the app for all users through the Teams Admin Center so they do not need to add it themselves.

Linking your organization

After installing the app, you need to connect your organization to your Benevity account.

  1. Open the Benevity app in Microsoft Teams.
  2. Select Get started or Link your organization on the welcome screen.
  3. Enter your domain. This is the domain you use to access your program (for example, mygoodness).
  4. Select Sign In when prompted and complete sign-in in the Benevity browser window that opens. Allow pop-ups if your browser prompts you.
  5. Review the confirmation card and select Confirm and Link Organization.

Once your organization is linked, you're ready to complete the onboarding setup.

Note: If your company uses more than one Microsoft 365 organization, you can repeat this setup in each one.

Completing the admin onboarding setup

After linking your organization, complete your personal account setup.

  1. Review the Terms of Use on the Account settings screen, then select I accept the Terms of Use to continue.
  2. Enter your contact details, including your street address.
  3. Select your time zone from the dropdown.
  4. Select Confirm to finalize the setup.

Once setup is complete, each user needs to link their Microsoft 365 and Benevity accounts before they can get started. They will not need to enter the program domain, as this is already configured for your organization.

Note: The Benevity app in Teams automatically detects which features are enabled for your program. Giving, volunteering, and matching are each controlled by your program configuration, and features that are not enabled are not shown to users.
