Setting up VolunteerMatch for your program

Benevity's integration with VolunteerMatch gives your employees access to a broader network of volunteer opportunities directly within your Benevity Volunteer program. Your people can search, browse, and sign up for local and virtual opportunities, skills-based activities, and board leadership positions. Because the integration uses single sign-on, they don't need a separate VolunteerMatch account.

Understanding VolunteerMatch

VolunteerMatch is an external network of volunteer opportunities created by member organizations, including nonprofits, NGOs, schools, and other organizations. These opportunities are open to anyone who signs up through the VolunteerMatch network. Your employees may be volunteering alongside people outside your organization.

VolunteerMatch opportunities are distinct from your program's regular volunteer opportunities. Regular opportunities are created by people in your company, volunteer coordinators, program administrators, and nonprofits connected to your program. VolunteerMatch opportunities come from VolunteerMatch's open external network. They appear on a dedicated Find Volunteer Opportunities from Volunteer Match page, separate from your Browse Volunteer Opportunities page.

Note: VolunteerMatch is a separate integration from Benevity's other volunteering partners. If your organization works with Goodera or Visit.org, those connections are managed differently.

Enabling VolunteerMatch for your program

To add VolunteerMatch to your program, contact your Client Success Manager.

If your organization already has an existing VolunteerMatch subscription, you can integrate it with Benevity Volunteer at no additional cost above your existing fee:

  1. Contact your VolunteerMatch representative and let them know you want to integrate your program with Benevity Volunteer.
  2. Contact your Client Success Manager to start the integration process.

Understanding the employee experience

Once VolunteerMatch is enabled for your program, employees will find an Explore Volunteer Match option under the Volunteer tab. Selecting it takes them to the Find Volunteer Opportunities from Volunteer Match page. This is separate from Browse Volunteer Opportunities, where company-created and catalog opportunities appear.

Searching for opportunities

Employees can search for opportunities using keywords such as an opportunity title, description, nonprofit name, or location. If no opportunities are available in their area, virtual opportunities appear by default, so there is always relevant content available.

Signing up for opportunities

When an employee finds an opportunity they want to participate in, they select Sign up now. They are then prompted to answer a few questions and confirm their email address. The nonprofit will follow up with them directly via email to provide details about the activity.

Note: The signup process takes place within Benevity Volunteer, but the nonprofit contacts volunteers outside the platform.

Tracking volunteer time

Employees can track their volunteer time for VolunteerMatch opportunities by selecting Track Time on the opportunity. This takes them to the standard Track External Volunteering form, where they can enter details about their volunteer activity.
