The Suggested for You section on the employee dashboard helps your people discover nonprofits that align with their interests, encouraging deeper engagement and meaningful action. Powered by the suggestions engine, this feature uses machine learning to recommend relevant, eligible nonprofits, making giving easier while increasing nonprofit visibility across your program.
Understanding the suggestions engine
The suggestions engine analyzes donation patterns and nonprofit characteristics to recommend relevant organizations. It draws from data in the Benevity Causes Portal, such as nonprofit name, category, description, and tags, to generate a list of donation-eligible nonprofits. These suggestions appear directly in the Suggested for You section on the employee dashboard.
Respecting privacy and eligibility
The engine does not use personally identifiable information (PII). Instead, it relies on anonymous platform behavior and applies your program’s nonprofit filter rules to ensure that recommendations align with your eligibility requirements.
Displaying suggestions for different employee types
The suggestions engine applies a simple logic path to determine what appears in the Suggested for You section.
For employees who have donated, it follows these steps:
- Identifies the most recent nonprofit the employee supported.
- Analyzes the nonprofit’s category (for example, education or food security).
- Matches it with similar, program-eligible nonprofits.
- Prioritizes results that are active in the employee’s country.
For employees who haven’t donated yet, it follows these steps:
- Surfaces a curated list of top nonprofits across the Benevity platform.
- Ranks nonprofits by total donation volume and number of donors.
- Filters the list to show program-eligible nonprofits operating in the employee’s country.
