Onboarding guides are pop-up tutorials that help new users explore the Dashboard. Designed to support first-time visitors, as well as users who haven’t accessed the platform in the past 9 months, these short, interactive guides highlight key features so users can begin making an impact right away. They also simplify onboarding for program administrators by providing helpful, in-product guidance for new employees.
Viewing onboarding steps in the guide
Onboarding guides appear as a series of pop-ups on the My Dashboard page when a user first visits, or if they haven’t accessed the platform in the past 9 months. Once a user completes or dismisses the guide, it does not appear again. This ensures the guide remains a helpful, one-time onboarding experience and does not interrupt future platform use.
Each guide includes five steps. Every step contains a short explanation and a visual aid. Users can move through the steps, save the guide for later, or dismiss it entirely.
The onboarding guide is supported in 22 languages and respects the user’s preferred language settings.
The steps in the guide include:
- Welcome message
Introduces the updated dashboard and encourages users to explore and take action.
- Search bar
Highlights how to search for nonprofits, opportunities, or causes to support.
- Personal impact tracking
Shows users where to view their total donations, volunteer hours, and overall participation.
- My activity
Explains where users can find their past and upcoming activities, including donations and volunteer events.
- My favourites
Points users to their list of saved nonprofits or events for easy access.
Enabling onboarding guides
Onboarding guides are available for all programs. They are automatically displayed to first-time users or those who haven’t accessed the platform in the past 9 months. There is no setup or configuration required from program administrators.
Helping users get started in your program
Onboarding guides improve the user experience by building confidence and showing employees how to start making a difference. For program administrators, they reduce the time and effort needed to onboard new users. By highlighting key dashboard areas, the guide encourages immediate participation and helps users understand how to contribute to your company’s social impact goals.
