The International Campaign is categorized as a multi-currency (multiple Spark Instance) campaign. This means that the users can be from different currency groups (e.g., USD, CAD and others). You have the option of targeting a sub-user group within the chosen currencies (Spark Instances).
The campaign is applicable to one or more specific causes and is available through your choice of a Giving Opportunity, the cause page directly, or both.
This campaign is a good option when:
- You want users across multiple countries to be able to donate to and receive matching for a specific cause or causes in the currencies they are assigned to.
- You’d like users to have the flexibility where they can donate and receive a match through a Giving Opportunity, through the profile page of the cause(s) directly, or both.
Here’s an example of an International Campaign:
- The campaign is set up so that users in the U.S. and Canada can donate in USD and CAD respectively to the American Red Cross and Canadian Red Cross either through a Giving Opportunity or directly through the cause’s profile in Spark and receive an enhanced match rate of 200% (compared to the typical 100%).
- Users in other countries (e.g., Australia) or using other currencies may be able to see and donate to the causes, but they will not receive any special matching.
Note: Please see the following article for more information about Giving Opportunities that include causes from multiple countries.

1. Campaign Title
If you’re offering an increased match, it’s most likely for a specific reason or will be communicated to your employees as a special occasion. Our teams like to have the name of your campaign right from the start so that we can set it up properly in reporting and in your Spark site.
(Example: Earth Day 200% - 2020)
2. Currencies
List all currencies (Spark Instances) that should be included in the incentivized match. Anyone in your organization associated with those currencies will be matched automatically when their donation is made
(Example: USD, CAD, GBP, etc.)
3. Does this Campaign apply to a sub-user group within the above chosen currency? (Y/N)
Maybe you have chosen to target this campaign only to the USD currency group (Spark Instance). Do you need to target the campaign further to a sub-user group within that instance, for example, New York employees only? In order to target a sub-user group, this field must already exist in your demographic file.
- (Example: No. All users with USD, CDN, GBP)
- (Example: Yes. Only the Marketing Department for USD, CDN, GBP)
4. Start and End Dates/Time and Time Zone
Specify the exact date, time, and time zone you would like this offer to start and end. The Benevity teams will ensure that matching will go end-to-end within the specified time zone.
(Example: March 1st @8:00am to March 31st 2020 @5:00pm Eastern Standard Time)
5. Match Rate (Percentage)
What will the match rate be during the specified date and time frame? Let us know using a percentage.
Example: a 200% Match Rate means that for every $1 an employee donates, they are matched with $2 from your program.
6. How do you want the budgets to draw down? (Choose option a or b)
Will there be a separate campaign budget or will funds come from the normal budgets you already have set up?
a. Draw down budgets as normal
b. Do not draw down from employee cap or Company Cap. You have a completely separate campaign budget that is outside of your usual budgets.
7. Campaign Company Cap (Optional- Use table below)
This is the total amount of budget you’d like to use for this campaign. Once that amount is reached, the cap will be applied and will stop matching any donations made, for any individual.
If you have decided to include multiple currencies, let us know what the caps are for each currency
(Example: $30,000 US, $6,700 CDN, $4,500 GBP)
8. Campaign User Cap (Optional- Use table below)
This is the total matching amount of corporate money that is possible for each user to receive. When a user’s matching amount hits this cap, the individual user will not receive any further matching.
If you have decided to include multiple currencies, let us know what the caps are for each currency
- Example 1: Campaign User Cap = $1,000
- Match Rate = 200%
- Outcome: Employees will be able to receive matching for donations up to $500 ($500*200%=$1,000 in matching)
- Example 2: Campaign User Cap = $1,000
- Match Rate = 100%
- Outcome: Employees will be able to receive matching for donations up to $1000 ($1000*100%=$1,000 in matching)
9. List of Cause IDs
Which causes are you celebrating and/or supporting? Let us know which causes will receive specail matching through this campaign. It’s helpful if you have both the cause names and their EIN (their tax ID), but please list the EIN as many causes have similar names.
TIP: You can find the cause’s EIN by finding the Cause Profile in Spark and copying the number sequence found in the URL.
- (Example: 840-581466516)
- (Example: 840-530196605/project/3FFK2NVZBZ)
Are these causes present in an active campaign? (Y/N)
NOTE: This field is VERY important. Let us know if any of your chosen causes are already in another active special matching campaign. If the cause exists in two separate 2:1 campaigns, for example, the special match rates will stack and result in more matching than expected.
10. Do you want this campaign to exist in a Giving Opportunity only, a Giving Opportunity and Cause Page(s), or a Cause Page only? (Choose a or b)
A campaign can live within a Giving Opportunity only, or it can be applied to the cause page directly. For example, if you created a 2:1 Disaster Relief Campaign Giving Opportunity and added the Red Cross as the chosen organization, the Red Cross would not receive 2:1 if the user visited the cause page directly and did not make the donation through the Giving Opportunity. You can request to have the cause page itself reflect the incentivized campaign.
a. I only want this special matching to apply if the employee donates through a Giving Opportunity that contains these causes.
b. I want the special matching to apply if the employee donates through a Giving Opportunity that contains these causes OR if they go to the cause page specifically, or submits an external match request to one of these causes.
11. Does the SPECIFIC Cause(s) Fall within the Country of One of Your Currency Groups (Spark Instances)? (Y/N)
Please let us know if the organization you have chosen uses a currency for which you don’t have a currency group (Spark Instance). For example, if you have created a campaign for the Australian Wildfires using an Australian organization, but you do not have the AUD currency group enabled in Spark, please notify our team.
- (Example: No. One of the causes is in Canada, but we do not have the Canadian Spark Instance enabled in our site).
- (Example: Yes. One of the causes is in Australia, and even though this campaign is only for our USD, GBP, and CAD groups, we still do have the Australian Spark Instance enabled in our site).
12. Special Considerations
Are there any special configurations or site updates that need to occur alongside this special matching campaign?
